A BAROQUE HOUSE has been on our festival radar for years, we are glad to finally present their latest release, although new stuff might already on the way from the ever productive SAM HEL.

Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes tells the story of a disruptive couple in a '60s gothic setting. Margot (Luisa Taraz) has inherited a castle, which is visited by her husband Dieter (played superbly by Frederik von Lüttichau). The first half skillfully delivers a psychodrama of this toxic relationship, amid the surreal castle where space and time seem to have their own rules. This summary does not even describe a small fraction of the sensation this film brings about: visual ecstasy, confusion and disorientation, but also a captivating experience you will not be able to recapitulate.

Telephone psychic Clementine Carter is pulled into a complex web of mystery when she receives a call from a serial killer. Predicting his murders before he commits them puts her into a terrifying game of cat and mouse. Enlisting the aid of her invalid father and clairvoyant co-worker, they must use their unique abilities to stay one step ahead of a maniac whose unspeakable acts in the present are nothing compared to his past and future.

Ten years have passed since the alien war, and now the line between human and alien is blurred. The film follows two vagrants who were once subjects of a dangerous experiment involving the assimilation of alien and human DNA. Their bodies were hollowed out by over-sized spiders, bio-engineered by EonCorp, a corporation with evil intentions. The spiders used their bodies as dwelling places until the assimilation process was complete, and their bodies regenerated. Now they wander around the South Mill District, waiting for the spider's mutagenic virus to do what it was meant to do.

Thirst takes place in a small town, not unlike Reykjavík where there is evil lurking around and strange crimes and brutality seem to be daily bread. The film centres around Hulda who is suspected being responsible for the death of her brother, Steindi, and is therefore under investigation by the police. After being released from custody due to insufficient evidence, she has nowhere to turn to. She lingers around in the cold until she sees an elderly man being beaten by two thugs in an alley and comes to his rescue.

A taxidermist obsessed with the beauty of butterflies attempts to turn himself into a human butterfly. His calculations were incorrect so his transformation takes longer than he originally thought.

The film cuts from this mondo imagery to the story of English couple Tom and Evelyn (Lewis Fiander and Prunella Ransome), who are taking a vacation before the birth of their third child. They arrive on an island where they encounter grim-faced, silent children who seem to be the island's entire population. Throughout their stay, they witness the children behaving strangely.
